The place was large and riddled with Earth Kingdom symbols. Of course everything there was pretty much made of stone or wood with a bar at the back wall. It was a nice place, connected to the Inn part by a door on the far left.
The blond was reading as he usually did. He had only been here in the city for a week and was already ignoring the world around him aside the library. They had such good books there after all! It was like heaven for Yasuchika. His eyes were fixed on the book he was reading, something about history. His glasses were falling down on his nose in that position, forcing him to push them up every so often.
It was a nice, spring day today. There was no rain, though the ground was a little wet from last night's rainfall. It was the time in Wu Xing where the plants all started to grow again. It was a fun time actually, though he preferred to stay home... well home for Wu Xing that is. Technically his home was in Ba Sing Se's upper ring and they had a house in the Metal Empire as well because of his mother. They were by no means a poor family. Now it was time to see what today brought as he flipped the page of the book, sitting on a stool by the bar. The barkeep was cleaning and the place was empty, to early for the drunks to be in yet.[/style] |

Biyu giggled lightly as she stretched, jumping out of the carriage with both feet on the ground. "Thanks!" she called out loudly, rushing to remove her own bags before the driver could do it himself. There was a silence, a short exchange of words, then a louder "No, I insist!" from the 13-year-old girl before the carriage drove off, leaving Biyu alone with a stack of boxes and bags outside the inn.
"Hmm..." she wondered loudly, moving her head between the stack and the doorway to what looked like a little restaurant. After a moment, she shrugged, picked up the top items, and walked inside.
Standing quietly for a moment, she stared wide-eyed at the inside of the building, taking in her surroundings. The silence didn't last long. "OooooOoo..." her lips were shaped into a perfect 'O'. "Oh, this is pretty!" She remarks to no one in particular before dropping her bag just inside the doorway and rushing outside to get the next one.

No offense to the girl but she was a little loud compared to most people. It appeared to be coming from the Inn part of the... well Inn. He looked around to see if anyone would get that... nope of course they wouldn't that would be WORK! The blond sighed, resigning himself to go take care of whoever was there. He shut his book, leaving it on the counter as his short body hopped off the stool and walked slowly towards the front desk of the Inn just through the door.
When he came in, he didn't even bother to look at the girl who was running in and out with boxes... all he really saw from his quick glace were the boxes... lots of them as her back was turned to him grabbing another box when he peaked. The boy shook his head, looking towards the wall of keys. The Inn was fairly vacant right now, which was a good thing for the customer. They'd get to choose which floor they wanted to be on right now... the first, second or third. Of course the third was rarely used because it also housed his grandmother, brother and himself leaving only two open rooms out of four.
"Welcome to the Stoned Inn, your needs are our needs how many people for how many nights," he said, looking at the keys still. "We also have rooms available on all three floors," he added in more of a mumbling manner. She might not have heard him... she might have... who really knows? Yasuchika just sighed, turning to face the girl finally. He was not in a particularly good mood today. [/style] |

It took Biyu several trips to bring all her belongings inside. Walking backwards she dragged her second-to-last box over the threshold with a great sound of exertion. Hearing suddenly a quiet voice, she jumps, spinning around to face the back of... a little boy? He was short, anyway. "Oh um, hi!" She cheerily responds as the boy turned to face her, not quite sure what he actually had said. "I'm Biyu Qian, nice to meet you! I'm new to this place. Just got here like um... 2 minutes ago? I think? Are you staying here too? I need somewhere to live until I find an apartment and oh! One moment, I have to get my last box still!" She rushes immediately outdoors again, before the boy could get a word in.
The last box was more of a trunk, and was located at the bottom for a reason; it was the heaviest. Biyu heaved, slowly dragging the heavy trunk across the stone... maybe it wasn't such a good idea to send her ride off without help afterall... "Oops..." she says quietly, laughing nervously while rubbing her head. "Okay, I've got this!" She tugs again with all her effort mustered and... manages to move the box all of three inches.

Though of course he couldn't say the same for the owner of the name. Now it wasn't because he thought she was ugly... but because she ran back outside before the mental image of what she looked like had formed because he was to busy being barraged by questions he didn't even get to answer. He opened his mouth to speak but she was gone already.
Well wasn't she hyper... actually to tell you the truth she seemed like his brother... obnoxious.... happy... and hyperactive... oh and also loud. He couldn't forget loud! Arui forbid she used her indoor voice. It was mere seconds before she reappeared... lugging, well more like attempting to lug, a huge trunk across the stone walkway. The trunk was probably made of some kind of wood so it was probably heavy.
"Are you sure?" he questioned, his tone suggestion he didn't believe she really got this. He was so far right, with all her encouragement to herself and laughing she moved it like three inches. He looked around... where was an earthbender when you needed one? He could always wake his grandmother... on second thought better not. She was a bit grumpy when she woke up and well... lets face it she was scary enough as it is.[/style] |

She frowned slightly as she continued to pull. This was exhausting, and truthfully, she knew she needed help. But she wasn't about to ask the small boy to do the work for her, and there wasn't anyone else around. "Well um..." Biyu pulls it another inch or two, then gives up, sighing as she sat herself on the trunk. "No. I'm not sure," another nervous giggle. She felt terribly awkward, knowing she wasn't making the best of first impressions at all. And first impressions were important. Her fingers twirled a few strands of hair that had strayed from her ox horn hairstyle as she laughed some more. "I guess I'll just sit here until I get my strength back. Which uh..." she looked up at the dark sky. It had rained earlier that morning... it very well could again. "Hopefully will be soon." She stared for a moment, pensively quiet, then jumped up again, spinning to face the boy with a grin. There was no use worrying about it now.
"Anyways, I'm Biyu Qian!" She states again, holding out her hand for him to shake. "I'm sorry I forgot my manners, I was just so distracted by getting my things inside before the rain."

Well of course he was assuming that since most of the folks who came here were from the Earth Kingdom and the rest usually stayed in their respective embassies but there were always a few outliers. It did make sense though why she was being a little odd, rain on ones things were never pleasant especially if they were expensive or very personal to a person. Then again for all he knew it was just frivolous clothes in all of this and she was just some vapid rich girl like his sisters... well one of them anyway.
The girl perplexed him... who could be this happy this early in the morning. Truthfully he'd like to still be in bed with his pounding headache. He shook his head at himself, even his thoughts made him sound like an old man at the age of only about fifteen. It was really quite strange, but then again with a twin who acted nearly ten years younger than they were it balanced out. It was kind of funny that way.
"Yes, welcome to the Stoned Inn... Biyu Qian," he said trying not to stumble over her name. It helped that she had said it herself than if he'd just seen the name and tried to pronounce it. The blond boy tilted his head at the girl, thinking to himself. Well she didn't seem like a bad person, just sort of childish and stubborn. Then again that was an Earth trait so he couldn't blame her for that.
"If you'd like I could get someone to help you," he suggested, trying to at least be a little helpful. He could probably get his brother to bend to box inside or just have the bartender carry it. He was a strong man after all... then again his grandmother could probably just drag it in with her pinky. That would require her to be awake though and she would probably remain asleep until noon which was still a good two hours away.[/style] |

Biyu looked between the boy and the trunk... head swiveling back and forth a few times before she nodded, grinning once more. Now that the help had officially be offered, "Sure, I'd like that. Do you have someone who can help? Because I don't want to bother you," even though he apparently worked there. She knew the box was heavy. He didn't look much stronger than her. Though... most people were, despite that... she was just weak. Biyu shakes the thought away, speeding back into conversation.
"By the way, what's your name? I already said mine but you didn't tell me yours? Or... or is it rude of me to ask? Mom always says I should stop to think first but..." she stops, finally slowing down and thinking at this, and looks away, pursing her lips. First big trip out on her own and she was already messing things up. What if customs were different here? "I'm sorry," she states a little slower. "I talk too much, don't I?" she asks, sheepishly rubbing the back of her head. "I'm just really excited." She knew that wasn't completely true... She always talked too much, excited or otherwise. But she couldn't help herself!

He looked over to the next room through the door that connected the pub to the inn. He yelled something to the rather large man behind the counter, causing him to come towards them as Biyu continued to speak. She asked for his name... which confused him a little. Though he supposed it was worth knowing so if something got messed up she'd known who to get help from... or complain about.
The blond boy put on that smile he had when he worked, when he was forced to be nice. Everyone knew that smile, where in the back of their head they were planning on how they would slowly murder the other person. It was that smile, forced simply put. "I'm Yasuchika..." he looked around, like he was waiting for something. Nope, there was no answer from anywhere which meant his brother was still asleep.
"This would be your first time in Wu Xing then?" he asked. It was common for new people to the city to be all giggly and happy before they found out this city was pretty much nothing to special. Sure there were tons of people from every nation on the planet and it had it's share of cool things like the circus that came every year but it also had weirdos... and drunks. Oh boy did he know drunks since he worked here. [/style] |

Biyu nodded quickly, lips pressed tightly together. She hardly noticed that the boy was smiling strangely. He was smiling, and that's all that really mattered. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to find new friends here after all.
"Mhmmm," she continues to nod, "I've never been anywhere like this before. I've always lived in a smaller village far away from here... And guess what? I get to stay here for the whole summer! Mom and Dad will be traveling that whole time so I need somewhere to be so they thought I'd like it here and they're right. Especially now!" she grinned, looking around as her things were taken away. He looked a bit out of place... too quiet. Biyu didn't like that... silence tended to make her uncomfortable.
"Because, you know," she grins broadly, "I'm making friends already. Do you live at the inn, then? I was thinking at first I'd just stay here until I found an apartment, Mom and Dad gave me money to live wherever I wanted to, but if you're here, maybe I'll just stay? There's a restaurant next to here, right?" she moves, walking towards the doorway she figured connected both parts of the building. "That would make things easy. Though I think I'd like to go out a lot too once I know where I'm going. Oh!" she spins around on one foot back to face him, "Do you know any fun places?"

Not to say that all girls were like this but he did grow up with a few sisters so he knew how many females his age acted and even after all this time they still confused him with their odd behavior. Then again he was only human... and a boy at that so the female species was confusing to him just as it must be the other way around.
"I've always lived in large cities," he commented,"most of my family lives in Ba Sing Se." He didn't say which ring they lived in but... it was definitely not the lower or middle ring. Yes his family was rich... like Fan Qian rich per parent. That was a lot of money in both sides of the family so they never had a really 'hard life' like many would consider.
"Yes, my grandmother owns this Inn and the connecting pub," he said, her tone very... stable? Which is just a nice way of saying he was rather monotone in his speech... not true monotone of course but one could probably surmise he wasn't super interested in what he was saying. Then again this was Biyu they were talking about and she had a tendency to... be... well Biyu.
Yashuchika just shrugged at her staying there for a while. He hoped his grandmother didn't hear anything... or his brother. Knowing them they'd hug her and welcome her to stay... at a discount but there was no way she was staying for free... then again there might be some embarrassing things said as well like... so guess who is single and a nudge in the boys direction. His grandmother was like that... a crazy old lady.
"There is the library.... and every summer there is the carnival in the Fire District," he said, commenting on what he found fun. Of course he was kind of boring... what do girls like? Clothes! Girls liked clothes, shoes and boys according to his sisters. "There is also a flee market that sells clothes and... shoes," he said, trying not to falter his smile. Wasn't he... sly on putting in the shoes and clothes reference... totally... not. [/style] |

Biyu listened attentively, lips held tightly together once more to prevent herself from interrupting... another bad habit she knew she had. She nodded as he explained he had always lived in a city, biting her tongue not to question where. A few more nods when he said he grandmother owned the inn, and slight face of displeasure at the mention of the library (she tried to hide this, she really did). But the carnival... the fire district.. and shopping! She could hold her tongue no longer.
"There are a lot of places, then?!" she questioned, cutting in the moment he completed his brief speech. "There aren't many places at home. I mean, there are a few, and I love them, but mostly everyone wears the same thing so it's kind of boring, you know? Actually..." she slows, looking Yasuchika over. "You probably don't, do you?" She giggles nervously. He was a boy. Boys didn't care about this sort of thing. Then maybe...
"But there's a carnival? In the Fire District?" she nodded slowly as she talked. "This summer? That sounds like fun. I've only seen fire benders um... two times. When they did shows in town." She leaves the library topic completely alone, not wanting to think about the long hours she was stuck in her room with her tutor, going over pointless subjects in his dry tone. It was miserable.

It was one large city, nowhere near the size of Ba Sing Se for example but it was still fairly large, possibly the size of Omashu or larger. Then again with all the different nations here it shouldn't be that surprising. The surrounding area such as the carnival company that was originally from this area prospered enough to travel so much because of this cities construction.
"Yes, this is pretty large... Ba Sing Se is larger though," he said, tilting his head as he stated an objective fact. Of course he really mostly knew this from experience. His house was actually pretty large by... well any comparison. It was easy to get lost sometimes if one didn't know where they were going. Then again he supposed it wasn't hard in unfamiliar territory. There he goes over thinking things to much.
"No I wouldn't, my sister had enough clothing changes I happen to like consistency," he said, a little bit of annoyance in his voice. He sighed after that, pinching his forehead. He looked at Biyu, bowing to her. "I apologize for my comment," he said simply. Well that was... weird?
He looked as she said something about fire benders and the carnival. In truth he was only paying attention because he probably should. She was a pretty girl and all but kind of... annoying. Not so much what she said as her voice... it was a little... high pitched for his taste but then again if she ended up staying here he'd probably get used to it. "We get people from every embassy come in to the bar here... so you are in luck perhaps," he stated simply. They did get a lot of people that were... here for booze and maybe dinner. They rarely got any metal or air though but that was more because of them than the pub itself. [/style] |

The excitement of arriving at her home for the next many months began to dim at his comment... Biyu was starting to get the impression that her new friend wasn't actually all that interested in their conversation. She understood that wouldn't care about clothes or shopping but... still. Even with his apology. She frowns a bit, visibly deflating. "Well uh..." her voice slowed too, and she looked away, rocking back and forth on her feet. "It's exciting that I'll be able to see the other nations. And um..." Her speech was riddled with pauses as she thought. Ba Sing Se? He did mention his family lived there. "... I've always wanted to see Ba Sing Se." She finishes, looking up at the ceiling thoughtfully.
She shook herself out of it. Maybe Yasuchika didn't care much to be her friend, but that didn't mean she wouldn't find other people she'd get along with! She'd have a new best friend in no time. Someone to keep her distracted from how much she was already missing her friends at home. "Well uh, right," she grins suddenly, back to her perky self. "I guess I'll stop bothering you know," she did laugh nervously though. "Do you know which room they moved my stuff to? Oh, and where and when do I pay? And what's the best time to eat and... ..." She ends with an awkward grin, realizing she was doing it again. "Never mind, I'll just um.. stop... talking."

She went from unquestionably chipper to unhappy in a second to somewhere in between after that. It was very strange, kind of interesting though... in a weird way. The blond nodded as she spoke about seeing the other nations.
"Yes, the other nations here are a rare opportunity to learn," he said. He knew that was part of the reason he enjoyed being here more than another place. It allowed him to learn from the other nations, the other people and become more... scholarly. Well at least it was fun, learning so many new things... something he assumed this girl wouldn't. She didn't seem like the book time.
"Ba Sing Se is quite nice, though I've only seen the Upper and Middle Rings," he said, tilting his head. He had never been to the lower ring... though he was glad he hadn't. It was not the best place in some parts, especially the slums. Since he had money he never had to be there, something he was glad for.
"We have rooms on all three floors open, pick the floor and I'll show you to your room," he said. He looked at the keys, all shiny and... well actually they were brass and a little rusted on a few of them but that was because the locks here were reused from another building before this. She was then asking a lot of questions. It was a little annoying, but she was a customer... and he had to help her.
"The best time to eat would be around noon and after 5pm but before 9pm when the drinkers come... breakfast ends at 10am," he started, explaining a little about the food. He shrugged at the payment aspect. "You can work that out with my grandmother, for now we'll just need some form of id to prove you are who you say you are... so you don't just run without paying," he said. That was their policy, pay as you leave. They usually kept your id while you stayed there, though it was different for each nation. Earth was easiest since most usually had some form of paperwork or birth record. The others were more tricky but that didn't really matter.[/style] |
