Fan is generally a quiet sort of person, preferring the company of books- typically non fiction - to people. People disappoint her. They're either too selfish, ignorant, or loud to bother with. She does enjoy the occasional conversation with other intellectuals, playing her own games with wit merely to entertain herself.
BACKGROUND INFO
Father: Mr. Qian Senior, Deceased
Mother: Mrs. Qian Senior, 58
Siblings: Brother - "Mr. Qian" 37
Niece:Biyu Qian - 15
Nation of Origin: Earth Kingdom
Overall History: Fan was raised by parents who thought too highly of themselves. Her father fought with the Dai Li in the war against the Metal Empire and continued with his strict attitude even when it was over. He, as well as her mother, expected nothing but the best. Her mother groomed her to be high society, with perfect manners and perfect conversation. Fan would much rather be hiding in her room reading, or outside, playing in the dirt... Neither parent found her earth bending to be very appropriate. Ladies did not participate in such activities.
Too independent to be squashed down by ridiculous rules of decorum, Fan did what she wanted anyway, leaving a great fissure in the family dynamic. Her brother was mostly obedient. He even liked it... and grew up to be the perfect sort of someone they wanted. He married when she was fifteen. A year later, her niece was born.
It was around this time that her parents got the bright idea to marry Fan off, going so far as to arrange a marriage for her after she blatantly ignored all suitors. When she was 17, Fan disappeared, running away to Ba Sing Se to become a university student. Faced with embarrassing the family even further, her parents paid for her schooling upon receiving word of her location.
For the next eight years Fan studied. First, politics, as she wanted to change the world. But by the time she reached her final classes, she had grown tired of the drabble, accepting that her views on the world were too forward for the rest of the kingdom. She promptly switched to economics.
All the years of college, she continued her bending studies, trying out several instructors in the process until she was near master level.
Investing more of her father's money, she managed to multiply her funds a significant amount. Now, at the age of 29, Fan Qian has long since paid her family of her debts and is quite well off. Though her free spirit and funds to back it up did her no good in traveling home two years ago when her father passed away. Nor any other time since she left all those years ago.
